Obituary

Mavis Hillevi (Sandahl) Lawson, 92, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2023 in Spokane, WA where she lived the last 6 years. She was one of four children, born to Enoch and Hillevi (Staaf) Sandahl of Rockford,  IL. She graduated from Rockford East High School in 1948.

Mavis was united in marriage to Richard C. Lawson on October 21, 1949 and they were married for 66 years. She worked at National Lock and Sandahl Farm Service and she was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockford. 

She is survived by daughter, Vicki Boone; son, Douglas (Susan) Lawson; brothers, Kenneth (Charmaine) Sandahl and Lawrence Sandahl; and step-sisters, June Peterson and Ramona Cicogna.  She was also blessed with seven grandchildren, Aaron, Supa, Matthew, Jonathon, Maylissa, Kyle and Joshua; 8 great-grandchildren, Rivers, Kyleena, Sawyer, Kieran, Mason, Exor, Sophia and Everett; and many nieces, nephews and friends.  Predeceased by her parents; brother, Leonard Sandahl; husband, Richard Lawson; and step-father, Martin Bergendoff. 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. in First Baptist Church, 5304 Charles Street, Rockford, IL 61108.  The family requests:  please, no flowers.  Instead, any contributions can be made to First Baptist Church.
