Matt Brooks, 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 6th, 2024. Matt was born in Kansas City, MO to Stella (Hughes) and William Brooks. He was an older brother to his sister, Cecile Bircher and his brother, Chris Brooks. As a family, they spent time living in Denver, CO in Sedalia, MO.
Matt was a proud veteran. He served our country from 1965-1969 in the U.S. Navy, there he did the training and moved up to become a U.S. Navy Seal, which was a huge honor. During that time Matt did 3 tours in Vietnam. He was incredibly proud of his country and proud of his service. He married Jane Anderson on October 24th, 1970. They had a wonderful and happy marriage. They enjoyed traveling, playing games, being with friends and most of all being with their kids and grandkids. Jane and Matt loved to go to Gulf Shores, Alabama with their entire family. Matt loved to see the kids at the beach. He also enjoyed fishing.
Matt attended Rock Valley College and graduated as a Respiratory Therapist from Saint Anthony's in 1975. He worked many places with the longest being at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. He enjoyed being silly and making jokes with all of his patients and co-workers. He especially loved the children patients because he could talk to them in his Donald Duck voice to make them laugh.
Matt was a constant. He was strong and steady, dependable and honest, kind and good natured, funny and so, so loving - he loved his family fiercely. He was bigger than life and will leave an immense hole in many peoples' lives. He is survived by wife, Jane Brooks; children, Kimberly Brooks, Greg Brooks, and Anna Nunally; grandchildren, Luke and Emma Nunally and Ella and Scarlett Brooks, his siblings and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, William and Stella Brooks
