Mary Awe Obituary

Mary Ann Awe, 66, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, due to complications from a hemorrhagic stroke. She was born on October 28, 1959, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mary shared 44 wonderful years with the love of her life, Marc Awe. The couple married on July 28, 1984, in a small church by the side of the road, beginning a lifelong journey filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

Dedicated to both her family and her work, Mary attended Rock Valley College to become a nursing assistant while raising her children, Megan and Tyler. She went on to work for many years at Alma Nelson Manor and Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, caring for others with compassion and dedication. Of all her jobs, she especially enjoyed her time at Hancock Fabrics, where she combined her love of creativity with her work until the store's closing.

Mary found her greatest joy in her family, particularly her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them, sharing homemade meals, and creating lasting memories together. She was also passionate about trying new recipes, sewing, and making candles, hobbies that reflected her creative spirit and generous heart.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Marc Awe; her daughter, Megan Awe; her grandchildren, Reagan Awe and Carter Awe; her mother-in-law, Lin Awe; her sister, Sandee; her brother, Timothy “Timmy”; and close to 17 other siblings, from her biological mother, Dolores.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved son, Tyler Awe; her parents, Lorene “Pat” Ackmann and Earl Ackmann; and her parents-in-law, Lois Awe and Robert Awe.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a celebration of Mary's life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through a GoFundMe established by the family to assist with expenses.

Mary's kindness, creativity, and devotion to her family will be remembered always by those who knew and loved her.
