Mark A. Loewecke, 63, of Caledonia, IL passed away peacefully in his home of 37 wonderful years on February 28, 2023 surrounded by his loving wife, Joyce, and children, Steven (Angela) Loewecke, Jacob (Kylie) Loewecke, Jennah (John) Mariani. He fought hard for the past three years battling a rare form of multiple myeloma. Mark was born, the youngest of four children, to Kenneth and Shirley Loewecke Sr. in Chicago, IL on October 7, 1959. He spent most of his childhood years growing up in Schaumburg where he eventually met and married his true love on October 20, 1979. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and a devoted member of Caledonia Congregational Church.
His heart for service directed him to find, develop, and pursue his passion for emergency medical services. Mark’s volunteer work for North Boone Fire District 3 led him to EMS where he served as chief of Capron Rescue Squad and established a 27-year career at OSF St. Anthony’s Medical Center.
Mark enjoyed working with his hands. At any given time, you could find him working on a home improvement project or a car repair, and he would drop anything he was doing to assist one of his kids with a project of their own. Every task happily resulted in dozens of trips to the hardware store and, of course, a stop for coffee while he was out. He was a good listener, a great storyteller, and he had an exceptional sense of humor. His laugh was genuine and one of a kind. Each year, Mark looked forward to the family trip up north to his sister and brother-in-law’s cabin where he enjoyed fishing, snacking, and hanging out. His strong and loving character will be remembered by his grandchildren Henry, Dylan, Emmy, Piper, Quinn, and Ella who knew him as their dear Papa. Whether he was laughing, listening, teaching, or sharing his faith, Mark’s influential presence will continue to be felt by those he loved long into the future.
Mark is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, Debbie (Dale) Johnson and Kenneth (Cheri) Loewecke Jr., Aunt Elaine Tanney, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mark is predeceased by his parents, sister, Kathie Wentz, brother-in-law Dennis Wentz, and nephews Kyle and Kerry Wentz.
A visitation with fellowship will be held at North Boone Fire District #3, 305 W. Grove Street, Poplar Grove, IL on Friday, March 10, 2023 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. The celebration of life will be held at Caledonia Congregational Church, 14730 Oak Street, Caledonia, IL 61011 on Saturday, March 11, 2023 with a visitation at 9:00 AM, service at 10:00 AM, and burial to follow at the Scottish Argyle Cemetery at 8901 Picken Road, Caledonia, IL 61011.
