Maria L. Rodriguez

Maria L. Rodriguez, also called Mama Lucy, Mama Luz and Abuelita Lucy, age 91, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 20, 2024, filled with love by all her family. She was born on December 14, 1932 in Mexico. Grandma loved sewing, giving massages and cooking for her loved ones whenever they visited.

She is survived by her eight children, Israel Rodriguez, Eva Rodriguez, Guillermina Montoya, Jaime Rodriguez, Margarita Reyes, Orlando Rodriguez, Sonia Rodriguez and Jose Luis Rodriguez; 26 grandchildren, Patricia Serrano, Beatriz Licon, Leslie Rodriguez, Miguel Rodriguez, Rocio Rodriguez, Lucia Rodriguez, Miramar Servin, Oliva Montoya, Rosa Melecio, Jose Montoya, Eduardo Montoya, Yesenia Rodriguez, Yadira Rodriguez, Yeri Rodriguez, Max Rodriguez, Lucero Rodriguez, Marcelino Castro, Claudia Rodriguez, Rosalinda Rodriguez, Andy Rodriguez, Yesenia Rodriguez, Noemi Rodriguez, Juan Rodriguez, Armando Rodriguez, Fernando Rodriguez and Nathiel Rodriguez; 47 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.  Preceded in death by her husband, Placido Rodriguez Arreguin.

A heartfelt thank you to the hospice caregivers and her eight children who took turns caring for her, dressing her and styling her hair. She cherished every moment with her family.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL 61111. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 in St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 3004–11th Street, Rockford, IL 61109.
