Marcia "Lee Lee" L. Laliberte, 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on Thursday, September 19, 2024. She was born November 18, 1938, in Rockford, IL to Frank O. and Lorraine Coons. She and her twin sister were quite the surprise back then. Their mama, Lorraine, was told she was having a great big baby boy! Sister Lou Lou was born first, and then eleven minutes later came Lee Lee. What a bond those twins would have. Lee graduated from East High School in 1956. On June 8, 1957 she married Edward Leo Laliberte, and they started their family in Rockford, IL.
She worked numerous jobs over the years: King’s Flowers, D’Agostino’s, National Lock, Suntec, Rolling Green School, and Alma Nelson Nursing Home. The only one we all got to hear about over and over, was how she was a waitress and how we should take care of our server! Her favorite jobs were being a mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for any of her family. She enjoyed going to get her hair done by Becky (no one could do her hair like Becky), loved going to the casino, and enjoyed going to “Pot Luck” with the gals from school. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her sister while raising their children together and just being there for each other.
Survived by her daughter, Shelley Johnson; sons, Mark and Ricky; granddaughters, Jessica (John) Keller, Taylor (Jonathan) Johnson; grandson, Danny (Talitha) Smith; great grandchildren, David, Carter, Matthew, Jake, Christopher, Levi and Leah; niece, Penny Richardson; great-nephews, Miles (Anca) Garner and Tony (Michelle) Garner; great-nephew, Seth Garner; and; great-niece, Zeni Garner; cousins, Gary (Mary Lee) and Bobby (Rachel) Jones. She is predeceased by her husband, Eddie; her best friend and twin sister, Lou Lou; son, Johnny; mother, Lorraine Edwards; father, Frank Coons; brother, Jeff Bronson; nieces, Tony King and Lauren Bronson; nephew, Steven King; great-nephew, Seth Garner.
Our family is so grateful for the Hospice team at OSF. They made our mission to keep her at home until the end a reality. Special thanks to Lydia, Alvin, Kim, Tam, Autumn and Amy for all your kindness and compassion, and her great-grandsons, Jake and Christopher for spending time with her over the summer. We could not have done it without all of them.
Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 12:30pm at Lt. C. A. Robert Carlson American Legion, 1011 S. Alpine Road, Rockford, IL 61108.
