“God is always more patient with us than we are with ourselves” was a favorite maxim of Loren Buffington, who passed away on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2024, at his home in Roscoe.
At his request, no service will be held.
Born in Wapello, Iowa to Rex and Nellie Buffington, Loren attended Wapello High School, served in the US Navy, then later graduated from Northern Illinois University while holding down a full-time job. He retired from Factory Supplies in 2004 after 20+ years as Controller of the firm.
Loren loved his family unconditionally, and helped anyone who needed it. He embraced his work with resolve and detail, whether at his "day job" or as volunteer Treasurer at Kishwaukee Presbyterian Church, then Willow Creek Presbyterian Church. Until his later years, he enjoyed travel, bowling and golf. Most of all, he was so proud of his grandchildren flourishing in pursuit of their goals.
The family he leaves behind includes his wife, JoAnn; son, Brian (Deena) and children, Alexandra and Anthony; daughter, Tara (Don) Cuppini and children, Gianna and Joseph; brother, Marvin (Peaches); sisters, Cheryl (Bob) Curtis and Marlene Belzer Brown. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law, Sandi (Dean) Sumida, Sue (Greg) Tamon, Sharon Erwin and Gere Taira. Family members who went before him include his parents and his sister, Leota.
Loren also cherished his church family, so we ask that any memorials be directed to Willow Creek Presbyterian Church in Caledonia, Illinois.
Both his breakfast waffles and homemade ice cream will certainly be missed, and we expect there's a Costco hot dog waiting for him in heaven.
