Lloyd (Red) R. Medlar was born November 7, 1936, in Mendota, IL to Clyde Medlar and Lillian (Kerchner) Medlar. Lloyd graduated from Mendota High School and the Rockford School of Business. Lloyd married Barbara J. Weiser May 17, 1957, in Dixon, IL. Lloyd worked at various jobs including Sandray Precision Grinding for 15 years and was co-owner of M&W Quality Grinding for 23 years. Due to the color of his hair many people knew Lloyd as Red Medlar.
Over the years Lloyd enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, woodworking, playing cards, and golfing. Lloyd was a member of the Live and Let Live (LLL) Club where he enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He also enjoyed playing cards at the G-PAC Senior Center of Loves Park. Lloyd was a faithful usher at Salem Lutheran Church and was recognized by the Blood Bank for giving blood and pheresis. Lloyd was always there to help his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and enjoyed taking his beloved dog, Mattie, for walks and car rides.
Lloyd is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Theodore) Peterson and Laurie (Andrew) McLain of Rockford, his brother, Richard Medlar of Montana; grandchildren, John Komarec of Roscoe, Michael Komarec of Monroe, WI, Theresa McLain and Christopher McLain of Rockford; and great-grandchildren, Kory Barnett, Jaquela Barnett, Ariel Komarec, Daniel Komarec, Angel McLain and Salem McLain, all of Rockford. Lloyd is predeceased by his wife, Barbara; his parents; sister, Donna; brother, Fred; daughter, Pamela Komarec; and son-in-law, Tajic Komarec.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, IL, 61111, at 11:00 AM, with a visitation starting at 9:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Salem Lutheran Church or Carpenter’s Place.
