Leona Cox, 81, of Stillman Valley, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 from complications of heart disease. She was born on June 9, 1936 in Rockford to Sam and Hazel (Johnson) Saladino. Leona married Virgil Cox on July 11, 1953.
Leona was an avid volunteer, mentoring at local grade schools and charities. Leona enjoyed fishing and crafting, as well as spending her winters in Harlingen, Texas.
Survivors include her five children, Kathy (Walt) Rose of Leaf River, Dan (Teresa) Cox of Leaf River, Sam (Denise) Cox of Cherry Valley, Shelly (Doug) Williams of Caledonia, Allen Cox of Stillman Valley; sister, Helma (Jim) DeSarbo; sister-in-laws, LaVon "Tootie" Willey and Cathy Saladino; brother-in-law, John (Sandy) Cox; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends, Donna, Amelia, Millie, Isabelle. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Virgil; brother, George Saladino; brother-in-law, Norman Willey; grandson, Douglas R. Williams.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, Illinois from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in The Red Brick Church, 207 W. Roosevelt St., Stillman Valley, Illinois 61084 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the family to determine an organization at a later date.
