Lawrence William Wood, 68, of Rockford, passed away peacefully from a battle with cancer on Sunday, July 7, 2024. Born May 12, 1956, to Lawrence and Patricia Wood, Lawrence thrived in the company of his friends and family. He adored going on fishing and camping trips with all of his children, displaying a northern pike on the wall for many years. Lawrence was always so proud of that catch. Lawrence was an enthusiast of model trains and racing slot cars; two of his biggest hobbies until his final days. He once made an entire model train town from scratch with buildings, homes, and, of course, trains traveling around the entirety of the town. He was a joy to be around as he bragged about all of his creations. Slot car racing until his final days was always on his mind. It was the glue to his adulthood. Lawrence successfully competed in many slot car competitions and leagues. He was able to meet countless lifelong friends through this hobby. This also allowed for bonding experiences with his children as they all grew into adults. Lawrence was a kind man and lived a life to be proud of.
Lawrence is survived by children, Larry, Jason, Nicole, and Josh; grandchildren, Dyllin and Mollie; siblings, Sheri and Bill and girlfriend, Tina.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 12:00 PM, at Scottish Argyle Cemetery, 8901 Picken Rd., Caledonia, IL 61011.
