Laurel “Red” Nesheim, 90, passed away April 24, 2025. Born July 23, 1934 in Trail, MN to Leonard and Gertrude (Berge) Nesheim. Red grew up in farming in South Dakota, moving to Rockford in the early 50’s with a job opportunity at Sundstrand Corp. Looking for a less restrictive, outdoor career, he and his brother started an excavating business. Shortly after that endeavor they both took up carpentry and construction, building hundreds of beautiful homes in the Rockford area over many decades. Red enjoyed and made many memories with friends and family over 60 years at Castle Rock Lake in Wisconsin as a weekend warrior, avid fisherman and hunter. During winter months, Red bowled in league play for dozens of years, making many friends and being noted and recognized as “high average”.
Red is loved and will be missed by his daughters, Deborah (Michael) Cesario, Denise Nesheim; grandchildren, Christopher (Lynn) Cesario, Andrea (Kurt) Bisnette, Lindsay Nagus, Alex Nagus (Janessa) Ryan (Alondra) Nesheim, Alexis Nesheim; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; special nephew, Ken (Mary) Nesheim; son-in-law, Paul (Kris) Nagus. Preceded in death by daughter, Donna Nagus, brother, Lyle Nesheim.
We are thankful and would like to acknowledge Heartland Hospice and the caring staff at Charter Senior Living for their help and care during this last rough journey for our father.
Graveside service for family and friends will be at 2:30pm on Friday, May 2, 2025 in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115.
