Larry Loffelmacher Obituary

On August 28, 2025, Dr. Larry K. Loffelmacher passed away in Rockford, Illinois. He was 89 years old. Born October 3, 1935, in Belfield, North Dakota, to Paul Justus and Bernice Irene Loffelmacher. His siblings included brothers, Don, twins Reid and Roswell; sister, Helen; and Larry’s twin brother, Lowell.  Larry had a great fondness for his early farm life, where his love of animals began—especially horses and dogs. He was a Marine who served in Korea and wore his red Marine hat proudly.  Larry was also a passionate pilot who enjoyed many adventures in his Cessna, often with family and his trusty dog in tow. In Larry’s career, he served as a pastor to several churches, and even when he later followed other career paths, he was a devoted Christian throughout his life.

He read the scripture and prayed constantly, and he loved the Lord/Jesus with his whole heart.  And because of God's love for him and his love for God, it was always on his heart to bless and care for people, regardless of what he was working on.  Larry firmly believed in tentmaker ministry (Acts 18:3)....touching people for God/Christ wherever you are in life.  And Larry is dearly loved by so many because of Christ shining through him to others.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Jo; his children, Jody(Bryan), Christine, and Thaddaeus; and his grandchildren, Maxine and Jillian. He will be missed by his family and friends for his humor, easy smile and willingness to lend a hand or simply listen.

Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer Avenue, Rockford, IL 61103.  Third Presbyterian Google Map Pin: https://maps.app.goo.gl/BNn5a7wWBa8kGoHZA

One of Larry's favorite scriptures:

Psalm 37: 3-6, 39, 40

Trust in the Lord and do good;
    dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
    your vindication like the noonday sun...

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
    he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
The Lord helps them and delivers them;
    he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
    because they take refuge in him.
