Kristofor Reed Peterson, 45, of Rockton, Illinois passed away October 7, 2023. Kris was born February 23, 1978 in Oakland, CA to parents Robert F. Peterson and Debra L. (Snyder) Peterson. His childhood was spent living in both Ohio and Illinois. He always said he’d have a vanity license plate that read KRIS24.
While he grew up in the Midwest, his heart led him to ocean vacations and dreams of retiring on a sandy beach with a book in his hand and a dog by his side. He had five dogs! Along the way, Kris became a dedicated Parrot Head. Also a fan of Eminem and rap music, no one spoke to him like Jimmy Buffet. At 6’4”, shaved head and sitting on his motorcycle, it’s hard to imagine that he was a prolific reader. He was raised on The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Chronicles of Narnia, and Lord of the Rings. He moved on to more fantasy, mystery, and adventure. His lifelong favorite was Zane Grey books.
His early teen and adult years were spent rock climbing and bicycling with his dad and siblings. As he grew older, those were replaced with his ocean vacations, relaxation hours with Legend of Zelda, rides on his motorcycle, work around his house and being with his family. The joy and pride of his life was the birth of his child, Jayden (Zane). He was lucky to have developed strong and loving relationships with stepdaughters, as well.
Kris was proud of his expertise as a maintenance mechanic at his job. He spent many hours modifying his Valkyrie motorcycle to make it his own.
We will miss Kris in our lives and being part of the world. He didn’t always know how much he meant to us. Kris is survived by Jayden (Zane); step-daughter, Natasha; and step-daughters, Starr and Jazmine. Also, parents, Bob and Dorien Peterson; brothers, Timothy (Rachel) Peterson and Ted Peterson; sister, Channing (Carl Holsinger) Priehs. Kris had uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him.
There will be a memorial get together for Kris on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the West Side Show Room from 2:00 to 4:00, 1414 N. Main St., Rockford, IL 61103. Parking in the rear. The family asks please no flowers.
