June Peterson, 88, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at home attended by family on Friday, January 23, 2026. She was born on May 31, 1937 in Bridgeport, CT. June married James B. Peterson in 1957 and was widowed after 48 years of marriage.
June was a 1955 graduate of East High School and completed studies at Swedish American Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. Upon completion of nurses training, she worked for Dr. Rundstrom, followed by Dr. Maimon. June also worked at Rockford Standard Furniture Co. (1975-1997), Martenson Greenlee & Kreitlow (1990-1999), Martenson & Blair (1999-2001) and Northern Illinois Library Systems (1997-2006).
June enjoyed cooking, playing the piano, gardening, landscape design and execution, painting, drawing and horses.
June is survived by her children, Kim (Don) Bowden, Elizabeth (John) Gucciardo and Brian (Deb) Peterson; grandchildren, Kristin (Morgan) Richburg, Nathan (Alyssa) Bowden, Trevor (Noelle) Bowden, Nicole Gucciardo, Peter Gucciardo, Heather Squires and Audrey (Jon) Peppers; 24 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ramona (Raymond) Cicgona. She was predeceased by her spouse, James; and parents, Martin and Elna Bergendoff.
Funeral service will be at 11:30am on Saturday, February 7, 2026 in First Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61107. A luncheon reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery, Rockford.
