Juanita Monson, age 79, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at home with family by her side. She was born on August 6, 1945, in Brilliant, Alabama, the daughter of James and Sciller Gay.
Juanita married James Monson on August 9, 1964. She was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to supporting her husband and children in all their endeavors. She loved to read, garden, and especially spend time in Hawaii with her husband, James. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandsons when they visited. Her pets throughout the years brought her immeasurable comfort and joy.
She is survived by her husband of just short of 61 years, James Monson; daughter, Kris (Bob) Bartz; son, Paul Monson; grandsons, Will and Sam Bartz; brother, Maurice Gay; sister-in-law, Penny Gay; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sciller Gay; sister, Louise Williams; brother, Troy Gay; sisters-in-law, Ber Gay and Sharon Gay; brother-in-law, Bill Dorsey.
Following cremation, Juanita’s ashes will be kept with her husband until his passing. At that time, both sets of ashes will be buried together at Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Rockford. To honor Juanita’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service (please celebrate her memory in your own ways).
