John E. Peterson

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, John E. Peterson (aka Pete Petie Peterson) unexpectedly transitioned from this earth to eternity. John was a Christian who placed his faith and hope in Christ Jesus as his Lord and Savior. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is more alive today than ever before.

Born on October 13, 1962, in Rockford, to Donald A. and Carol N. Peterson, John grew up as a hardworking farm boy, always helping, though secretly, he wanted to play sports. He attended Hononegah High School, graduating in the Class of 1980. John was married to Stacie J. King for 32 years, and together they built a life around family and faith.

John spent most of his adult life in the paper industry, beginning his career with Alpine Paper, Butler, Georgia Pacific, and Unisource in sales roles, and concluding at Midland Paper, where he served as General Manager for nearly 20 years. He was widely respected, well-liked, and deeply knowledgeable about the paper business. He loved the paper industry and the many people he worked alongside throughout the years.

John also enjoyed skiing, both on water and snow, fishing, trains, and sports, especially as a devoted Cubs, Bears, and strictly 90’s Bulls fan. Above all else, he loved his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Stacie; his loving children, Alexandra J. Peterson of Gold Coast, Australia, and Ian N. Peterson of Rock City; his siblings, Roxanne Klemm, Bill (Jane) Peterson, and Deb (John) Gilbert; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard K. Peterson.

A memorial service will be held on May 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Center in Rockford, with Pastor Bev Tucker officiating.
