John C. Mann passed away in Rockford, IL on March 22, 2023 at the age of 72. He was born in Rockford, IL in 1950 and graduated from Guilford High School in 1968.
John served his country in the Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1968-1970, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was an Ordinanceman in Field Artillery working as a 105mm Howitzer cannoneer. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with 1 star, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with 1 device, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm, and Combat Action Ribbon.
John worked as a machinist with Roscoe Tool, retiring in 2009. He enjoyed traveling in Arizona and Mexico, creating music playlists, cooking and grilling, and playing Texas Hold ‘em poker with friends and family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Carol Otting Mann; mother, Evelyn P. Mann; step-children, Sara Danger (Catherine Behling), Milwaukee WI; Aaron Danger (Chandra), Roscoe IL; Josi Lewis, Gainesboro, TN; Jennifer Murphy, Gainesboro, TN; and lifelong friend, Ron Hardy, Venice, FL.
John was predeceased by his father, Charles N. Mann; brother, Ray Mann; nieces, Laurie Mann and Dawn Mann, all of Rockford.
John is fondly remembered by all for his gentle nature, humility, contagious smile and kind heart.
The celebration gathering to share memories and stories of John’s life will be held at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe, IL on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
