John C. Jersild

John Charles Jersild, age 86, of Rockton, IL, passed away peacefully in his home at Highview in the Woodlands on April 30, 2026.

John was born on September 29, 1939, in Janesville, WI.  He graduated from Janesville High School in 1958 and went on to earn his degree from Luther College in 1962, where he played right guard and middle linebacker on the football team.

In 1962, John married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Urquhart) Jersild. They lovingly raised three children and were married for 41 years until Barbara’s passing in 2003. 

In 2005, he found love again and married Connie Hall Jersild; they were married until John’s passing.

John built a long and dedicated career, working for Parker Pen Company, St. Regis Corporation, The Testor Corporation, and the Illinois Manufacturing Extension Center.

A man of deep faith and service, John was a devoted member of Third Presbyterian Church, where he served as both a deacon and trustee from 1975 through 2006. In later years, he attended Hope Church, where he continued his fellowship and involvement. He enjoyed being a Stephen minister for many years.

John will be remembered for his warm smile, his helpful, caring nature, and his love of bringing joy to others. He was always ready with a joke, enjoyed singing while playing his ukulele or banjo, and never missed a chance to celebrate—he truly loved a good party.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Connie Hall Jersild; his daughter, Jenny Scheiwiller; his sons, Joseph (Rebecca) Jersild and Charles (Lisa) Jersild; and his elder brother, Ralph “Bud” Jersild, whom he loved and admired. 

John was a proud grandfather to Kevin, Keith, and Matthew Scheiwiller; Erik, Nora, Kyle, Aron, and Ally Jersild. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews, whom he loved and treated as his own.  

Connie’s children also remember him: Bob, Jim, Scott, Tony Hall, and her grandchildren.

John is predeceased by his loving first wife, Barbara (Urquhart) Jersild, his parents, Ralph and Mabel Jersild, and his brother Ron Jersild.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at Honquest Family Funeral Home - Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe, IL, 61073, at 12:00 PM, with a visitation starting at 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Scottish Argyle Cemetery.
