John Edie, 79, of Roscoe, Illinois, formerly of Caledonia, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, after a long battle with heart failure. He was born on August 19, 1946, to Wayne and Esther (Wood) Edie.
John lived in Caledonia before moving to Roscoe after marrying the love of his life, Jean. Together they shared 16 wonderful years of marriage after dating for six years. Their love story began at church, where they met through a Sunday school group known as the Joy Class.
A proud veteran, John served four years in the United States Air Force during the closing years of the Vietnam War. During his service, he was stationed in Alaska.
John built a career as a toolmaker in Marengo, Illinois, but his true passion was farming. As a part-time farmer, he found great joy working the land and caring for animals. He loved spending time outdoors and appreciated the simple pleasures that nature provided.
Fishing was John's favorite pastime. Whether casting from his fishing boat or paddling in his kayak, he found peace on the water. Jean often joined him kayaking, and together they enjoyed camping, hiking, and biking, creating many cherished memories along the way.
John will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Jean; his stepdaughter, Laura (Alan) Day; his stepson, Nic (Kellie) Adami; his grandchildren, Matthew and Luca; and his extended family, including Rhonda Reuter, Glen Edie, Kim (Leon) Choin, David (Lavonne) Kozman, Kristin (Bob) Pruitt, Karen Downey, and Kate Kozman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Esther Edie; his brothers, Chuck Edie and Bob Edie; and his sister, Muriel Kozman.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Javon Bea Hospital and Beloit Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to John throughout his illness.
A visitation for John will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10 - 11 am at Roscoe United Methodist Church, with a memorial service to immediately follow. John's family invites attendees to a luncheon after the service from noon to 1 p.m. at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy or the National Audubon Society, organizations that reflect John's lifelong love of nature and the outdoors.
