John P. Bender

John P. Bender, 82, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024 after a short illness.  Born in Poland, he and his family immigrated to Rockford, Illinois which would become his home for many decades.  John met his wife, Wanda, and they were married at St. Stanislaus Church September 1, 1977.  He worked as a carpenter until his retirement but would continue woodworking through his life. He and his wife moved to Friendship, Wisconsin after her retirement and that became home. Some of the hobbies he enjoyed besides woodworking was drawing, comics, playing cards, and collecting stamps and coins. His smile and humor will be greatly missed by many.

He leaves behind his wife, Wanda Bender; a daughter, Janet (Joe) Striedl; two grandsons, Roman Striedl and Gideon Striedl; three sisters, Janina Pieta, Connie Bakunowicz and Theresa Kreidich; one brother, Kaz Bender; special friend and neighbor, Richie Piontek; and numerous nephews, nieces, godchildren, and cousins. Preceded in death by brothers, Stanley Bender and Zygmunt Bender; and sister, Marianna Wazny.

Funeral will be held in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 201 Buckbee Street, Rockford, IL 61104 on Friday, March 15, 2024.  Visitation will start at 9:00am. At 10:15am the Rosary will be said followed by Mass at 11:00am.  Socialization during prayers and/or Mass can be done downstairs in the lobby to avoid interruption of the prayers. Lunch will be served in the downstairs lobby after Mass.  Burial will be at a later date at Saint Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Wisconsin.
