Joan C. Holt

Joan C. Holt, 86, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019. She was born on October 16, 1932 in Chicago to Harry and Mercedes (Gangloff) Cobb. Joan married Lester J. Holt on January 16, 1954 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. She and Lester owned and operated Dixie Cream Donut Shops in the Rockford area for 15 years. She later went on to work for Mid City Stationers where she retired from. She was a catcher in her women's softball league and enjoyed coaching softball as well. Joan spent her spare time volunteering for the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society. She had a passion for gardening, canoeing, fishing and camping. Joan loved all sports, and was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. When she was younger she lived six blocks from the Cubs stadium and enjoyed attending the games with her grandmother. Joan was a great cook, who always had an open door and an extra plate. She will be remembered for her humbleness, unconditional love, strength and integrity. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Survivors include her husband, Lester; children, Susan (Scott) Peterson, Darlene Kneubuehl and Jeffrey (Lynn) Holt; grandchildren, Kristin, Brent, Jennifer, Jason (Monika), Nicolas, Brittnie (Jeff), Alexander and Lauren; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Kai, Zaiden, and Teja; brother, David (Sue) Cobb; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Irv and Bruna Holt. Predeceased by her parents; mother and father-in-law; Orville and Goldie Holt. 

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111 with Pastor Alicia Butler officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
