Jewel Margaret Ainsworth

Jewel met and surpassed her goal of living to be 100 by 2 years. Jewel passed on November 12, 2022 at the age of 102. Jewel Carlson Ainsworth was born on an Indian reservation on April 23, 1920 in Warwick, North Dakota to John and Margaret Carlson.       

Jewel married Lloyd “Red” E. Ainsworth on February 1, 1948 at Wee’ Kirk of the Heather Chapel at Forest Lawn in Glendale, California. Together they had four children, twins Dennis and Frances, Duffey and Kay. They raised their children in North Park, IL and then retired to Sun City, AZ.   

Jewel led a full life with many adventures. During WWII Jewel lived and worked in California. Jewel was a plane spotter there she sat in the mountains in a small shack and watched for enemy planes.  She also worked at the ship yards and helped build warships. While in California she had the luck of seeing Howard Hughes’s Spruce Goose fly!  Not many can say that!  In AZ Jewel traveled into the mountains and desert to interviewed people for the census, many times on reservations. During their retirement Jewel and Red went on several cruises and spent the summers traveled the USA in their travel trailer.  Jewel was a member of the Red Hats, Rock Hounds, Sun City Line Dance Club, and the Leilani’s (Hula Dance Club).  

Jewel was predeceased by her beloved husband, Red; her son, Dennis; and son-in-law, Grant. Jewel is survived by her children, Frances (Robert) Grille, Duffey (Deborah) Ainsworth, and Kay Keehn. Jewel will be laid to rest in AZ next to her man, Lloyd E. Ainsworth.
