Jeannette "Jan" Nelson

Jeannette “Jan” M. Nelson, 88, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

She was born on January 24, 1938, in Rockford, the daughter of Roy and Ella (Revot) Conner.

In 1964, Jan married the love of her life, John Ingvar Nelson. Together they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories.

Jan dedicated many years of service to the Winnebago County Courthouse. Outside of work, she found great joy in sailing on Lake Mills and camping at Pierce Lake at Rock Cut State Park.

She and John were proud members of the Cardinal Caper RV Club and spent many happy years traveling the country in their RV, forming lasting friendships wherever they went.

Jan was rarely without a pair of beloved German Shepherds by her side. She delighted in caring for them and taking long walks together.

She is survived by her brother, Richard Conner (Kit), nieces and nephews, Chris Conner, John Conner and Shelli (Bob) Sanchez; her great nieces and nephews, Amy (Rudy) Moser, Mindy (Tyler) Beard, Teddy Teske, Paige Sanchez and Brooke Sanchez, including her special and cherished relationship with her niece, Chris, who cared for her Aunt "Netti" with deep love and devotion. She also leaves behind a great-great niece, Taylor, and a great-great-nephew, Evander. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John.
