Jayne Cottrell Obituary

Jayne Cottrell, 92, of Rockford, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022.  Jayne Hurley Cottrell was born in Creston, Iowa on December 14, 1929. Jesus took her to Heaven on April 28, 2022.  She came to Rockford, Illinois in 1980 from Des Moines, Iowa. She loved Rockford. She had planned to live to be 100 but God had other plans.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dewey. Also by her brothers, Al Hurley, Merland Hurley and Louis Hurley; sisters, Bernice Woosley, Lucille Benedict, Darline Loy, Beulah Conley and Doris Moen. She leaves behind her daughter, Sherry (Tom) Garlick; son, Dan (Sandy) Cottrell; grandchildren, Jaynie (Tom) Kamholtz, Melissa Carlson, Mindy (Jake) Swanson, Garrett (Kathryn) Garlick, Andy (Nicki) Cottrell, Brian (Jen) Cottrell, and Jeff (Lisa) Cottrell; great-grandchildren, Danny (Lori) Robinson, Kaylie (Brandon) Zammuto, Shannon Robinson, Nate Carlson, Ryan Carlson, Trey Carlson, Trenna Carlson, Trent Cottrell, Courtney Cottrell, Trevor Cottrell, Colby Cottrell, Aidan Cottrell, Rowan Cottrell, Brooke Cottrell, Devon Cottrell, Alex Duncan, Anyssa Duncan, Evan Duncan, Parker Swanson, Isaiah Swanson, Mordecai Garlick, Madelynn Garlick; great-great-grandchildren, Jasper Robinson, Levi Robinson and Joshua Zammuto. Also many, many nephews and nieces. She had many friends but none as special as JoAnn Holifield.

Jayne leaves a legacy of love for her family and for her Savior Jesus Christ. She was a prayer warrior and wanted everyone to know that Jesus is the only way into Heaven. John 10:9 NKJV says I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture (peace).  She wants all her loved ones to meet her in Heaven some day.

Jayne was a very talented lady. She wrote poetry (some were published), she wrote books and made up stories for her grandchildren (The Magic Bubble). She was a seamstress, she painted, she did genealogy for the Cottrell and Hurley sides of the family, she loved gardening and flowers and she loved to cook and she traveled to many of the states. She was active in several churches in Des Moines and Rockford. She was church secretary, Sunday school teacher, Children’s church leader, and always took an active part in other areas of the church. Her current church home was Faith Center.

She loved her computer and Liquid Nails. She thought those were two of the greatest things ever invented. She spent many hours on her computer doing research and keeping in touch with people and enjoying YouTube and she used Liquid Nails often.

We want to give a special thanks and appreciation to JoAnn Holifield for her friendship, love and concern for Jayne. They spent many hours together and enjoyed each other's company so much. JoAnn has been such a blessing and we love her.

Jayne requested that there would be no funeral. The family will gather together at a later date to share memories and remember her. We will celebrate her homecoming into Heaven. We will miss her but she will never be forgotten.
