Jan Drozd

Jan Drozd, known for his bravery and strength, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Poland on June 2, 1945, he left a lasting impact on all who knew him through his resilience and unwavering courage.

Jan is survived by his loving wife Jozefa Drozd of 52 years who stood by his side in both joy and sorrow, along with his three children, Andrej (Marta) Drozd, Urszula Drozd (Walter Kowal), and Bernadetta (Neal) Sherman. His grandchildren Katarzyna (Mateusz) Zielinski, Magdalena Woods, Katherine Woods, Connor Sherman, Ethan Sherman, and Christopher Sherman and great-grandchildren, Wiktor, Rita, and Igor Zielinski can attest to the strong love that he had for his family. 

Jan completed schooling in Poland and went on to serve in Poland’s Land Forces where he attained the rank of Corporal. He worked manual labor jobs and was also a city driver. He later worked as a machine Operator after moving to the United States in 1994. His career reflected on his passion to protect and provide for his family. 

Jan found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved the peace and relaxation of fishing, the fulfillment of gardening, and capturing special moments through photography. He also enjoyed collecting stamps, appreciating their history and artistry. These hobbies reflected his deep appreciation of his Polish heritage and upbringing. 

The family would like to give a special thank you and recognition to the Swedish American Hospital staff for the compassion and kindness they provided to Jan. Jan and his family will be forever grateful. 

The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 201 Buckbee St., Rockford, IL 61104, at 11:00 AM, with a visitation starting at 9:30 AM. A rosary will be said at 10:30 AM until time of mass. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in memory of Jan.
