James "Mike" Cram

James Michael “Mike” Cram, 78, of Roscoe, IL, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, adventure, and warmth. Born in Chicago, Illinois, the adoptive son of Lewis (Bud) and Elsie Cram, Mike grew up in Lanark, IL and spent most of his adult life in Rockford, Illinois. He dedicated 30 years of service to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, ultimately earning the rank of Captain. Mike had a lifelong passion for cars, with a special fondness for Corvettes. Among his favorites was his 1992 Corvette ZR-1, a car that brought him countless joyful moments. He was a free spirit, known for his fun-loving nature and his zeal for life. Mike even spent time as a disc jockey known as Jay Robins in his younger years, spreading music and laughter wherever he went. In his later years, Mike found a deeper appreciation for the importance of family and made efforts to reconnect and find peace with God.

He is survived by his loving son, Michael Lewis Cram and three grandchildren, Emma, Noah and Dakota. Also surviving are his brother, Paul (Kay) Cram; nieces, Paula (Bryon) Kellum and Kary (Robert) Dowling; and great-niece and nephew, Jori and Mason Dowling.

Mike will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his humor, and his love of life. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives in the hearts of those who loved him.

Mike was laid to rest near his parents, in the Lanark Cemetery on July 25, 2025.
