James “Fred” Young, 79, of Machesney Park, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026. He was born on January 29, 1947, in Datto, Arkansas, to Wiley and Alma Young. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army, completing two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service reflected his deep love of country and commitment to others. He was a devoted member of the Masonic fraternity and an active member of both the VFW and the American Legion. Fred married Donna Ackerson, and together they built a special life filled with love, family, and cherished memories. He will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, and the deep care he showed to those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Melissa (Walt) Keyser, Raymond (Jennifer) Reynolds, and Phillip (Kimberly) Reynolds; grandchildren, Jessica, James, and Jacob Bocker, and Rachael, Devon, and Riley Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Morgan Olson and Grayson Reynolds; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Young; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cathy Issac; and his first wife, Linda Hughes.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the VA–Madison, Amberwood Care Center, and Unity Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
There will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
