James M. Calhoun

James “Mick” Michael Calhoun, 74, of Rockford, died Friday, October 20th, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was born September 26th, 1949 in Rockford, Illinois. He graduated from Guilford High School in 1967. Mick married his wife, Arlene Calhoun, on November 18th, 1972.

Mick was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1970 and was stationed in Kansas City, Missouri where he met Arlene. He went on to work at Furst-McNess in Freeport from 1976, eventually retiring as the VP of Information Technology in 1998. He and Arlene built Heel/Sew/Quik of Rockford where he worked for many years repairing shoes.

Mick was never afraid to get his hands dirty and exuded the principles of hard work, toughness, and grit, while always reserving a soft and caring side for the ones he loved. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Mick is survived by his sons, Jeremy (Amanda) Calhoun and their son, Braxon of Wales, WI; Joey (Becky) Calhoun and their daughters, Olivia, Melody, and Penelope of Mansfield, TX; his sister, Karen Koch; great friend and pet, J.R.

Mick is predeceased by his wife, Arlene; brother, Leroy Calhoun; and sisters, Patsy Cline, Delores Swigart, and Shirley Burkhart.

A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17th, 2023 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL 61111.
