Hector Maurilio Garza, 73, of Loves Park, IL passed away on February 24, 2021 after a long battle with dementia. He was born on December 25, 1947 in Monterrey, Mexico to Maurilio and Virginia (Rodriguez) Garza. Hector married Yolanda Patena Alanís in January of 1989 and together ran their own business as landlords in the greater Rockford area. At the same time, Hector proudly dedicated 34 years working at Chrysler, and retired in 2002. He amassed a number of lifelong friends there, and it seemed that no matter where he went, he would run into someone he knew from there. He was also a very proud member of UAW Union 1268, and enjoyed his monthly breakfasts at Denny’s with the other retirees. He was an avid reader, a master griller of carne asada, and a fantastic storyteller that could draw you into the story even if it was the 30th time hearing it. Hector had a special love for bowling, the L.A. Dodgers, steak, and the spiciest pepper he could find.
Hector leaves behind his wife, Yolanda; his children, Lissette Garza, Melissa (Eric) Noble, Ericka (Colter) Pennell, Angelica (Jay) Garza, Daniel (Peter Brown) Gomez, and Miguel (Geri) Garza. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Grant and Wayne Noble, Kennedy Pennell, Sirena Bradley, and Alexis and Michael Garza. Also surviving Hector are his siblings, Eleazar (Maria de la Luz) Garza, Ernesto Garza, Maria Elida “Chany” (John) Brittain, and Maria Enedina Gonzalez. Hector is having a wonderful reunion in heaven with his parents; brothers, Edelmiro and Heriberto; and his beloved puppy, Zurie.
We would like to extend an extra special thank you to MercyHealth at Home Hospice, especially Ngozi and Mitch for their help and guidance. Also, a special thank you to Kelsey with Home Health Aid for her dedication to Hector in his final months. Private family services are to be held.
