Guilebaldo Mendoza

Guilebaldo “Joe” Mendoza, 72 of Freeport, IL passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born July 7, 1950 in Magdalena de Araceo, Valle De Santiago, Gto. Mexico, the son of Sireno and Maria (Morales) Mendoza. Joe came to the United States when he was 17 years old and he married the love of his life Gloria and they celebrated 52 years of marriage together.  Joe worked as a machinist for 30 years at Sundstrand Corp. and retired in 2008. He enjoyed gardening, cooking for family and for large events and spending time with family.

Joe is survived by his wife, Gloria; two daughters, Rita (Manuel) Bravo and Celia (Mohammad) David; four grandchildren, Santiago (Bianey) Bravo, Antonio (Jasmine) Bravo, Victoria Bravo and Sarah David; one great-grandchild, Ellie; one brother, Eleazar Mendoza; two sisters; numerous nieces and nephews including Adrian Mendoza, Juan Medrano and Nachies Medrano; and numerous friends who were like familia; also best friend, Jose (Maria) Contreras. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Adolfo Mendoza Morales; and best friend, John Dzwonkowski.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, 2022 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL 61111.  Visitation will be from 9:00am to 11:00am. Burial will be in Garden Prairie Cemetery in Garden Prairie, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family to be used in Joe’s name at a later date.
