Georgia Strang Obituary

Georgia Ray Strang (Fleming), 82, of Rockford, Illinois, went peacefully to be with the Lord on December 26, 2025, with her beloved daughter, Gina, by her side following a sudden passing. Though she faced health challenges, including high blood pressure, arthritis, and Alzheimer’s, Georgia met each day with quiet strength and grace.

Born and raised in Virginia, Georgia’s life was marked by travel and adventure. She lived in many places throughout the years, including Madagascar, Texas, Grants Pass, and Central Point, Oregon, experiences that shaped her deep appreciation for people and cultures. On July 27, 1965, she married David “Dave” L. Strang after a chance meeting on a bus—one Dave would later say he simply couldn’t let pass him by. Their love endured for more than 60 years, carrying them across the world during Dave’s service in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. While living overseas in Madagascar, Georgia welcomed their son into the world, a testament to her courage and devotion to family.

Georgia worked faithfully alongside her husband in their family business, serving as both front desk attendant and bookkeeper. Yet her true calling extended far beyond her work; she was a natural caregiver, offering compassion, patience, and kindness to all who knew her. She also worked as a housekeeper at the Rockford Country Club, where her dedication and gentle spirit were appreciated by many.

A woman of deep faith, Georgia was actively involved in her church and found great joy in serving others. She participated in numerous ministries, including the nursery, clothes closet, women’s luncheons, Stronghold, and Pen Secret Prayer Pals. Her servant’s heart also led her to volunteer with the Rockford Board of Elections.

Georgia will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous heart, and the quiet love she shared so freely with her family, friends, and community. Her legacy of service and devotion will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.

The family would like to give special thanks to her doctors and care team at OSF St. Anthony, the EMTs from that night, her doctors and care team at UW Swedish American Hospital, her social workers, all her family, her husband, daughters, and grandchildren.

Survived by her husband, David “Dave” L. Strang; children, Daniel “Dan” K. Strang, Georgina “Gina” M. Strang, and Gwendolyn “Gwen” E. Strang; grandchildren, Karissa D. Kubacki, Kaitlin N. Grant, Gavin M. Aniszewski, Trevor J. Grant, Keagan N. Strang, and Robin G. Christen; sisters, Vivian Mullins, Roberta Fleming, Lillian Drewett, and Virgie Childers (106 years old); some half brothers and sisters; nieces and nephews, Julia “Judy” Mullins, Jenny (Jim) Williams, Joyce (Shannon) Hobbs, Sylvester “Joe” Mullins, Dreama Stanley, Mitchell Fleming, Pam Mooney, Al Drewett, Fred Drewett, Laura Sellers, Jennifer “Kelly” (Doug) Carroll, Isabelle Carroll, and Rebecca “Beckie” Chapman.

Preceded in death by her parents, Calvin “Tivis” and Ida Gladys Fleming; siblings and half-siblings, Marie Mahonney, Martha Mawhinney, Mae Stanley, and Arizona Linkous, Dillard, Don, and Thelme “Bebo” Fleming. She was the baby of 13 children.

Georgia was laid to rest on January 2nd, 2026, at Greenwood Cemetery in Rockford, IL.
