Gary A. Swartout, 81, of South Beloit, IL, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025. Gary was born February 8, 1943 to Glen and Agnes Swartout in Beloit, Wisconsin.
Gary was a hardworking man and loved his family very much. Gary worked his whole adult life at Rockford Clutch/Borg Warner, retiring in 2009 after 47 years of dedicated service.
Gary was a great provider for his family, working two jobs (Rockford Clutch and Minor Pump). His children grew up in a humble home, took a few big vacations, but always had everything children would want (mini bikes, a swimming pool and snowmobiles). Gary had his toys as well. Gary was an avid motorcycle rider right up to the time he could no longer hold up a bike. He also loved his scooters which allowed him to ride a few more years after the motorcycle was no longer an option for him. He once rode a Vespa scooter on I-90, all the way up to Castle Rock Lake in Wisconsin to meet up with his friends.
Gary is survived by his son, Chris (Christy) Swartout; grandchildren, Nick, Brittany, Sierra, Brianna, Taylor, Kaylie, Kenzie, Connor, Erin, Hailey, Ashlynn and Lissy; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Eddie (Diana) Swartout, Sandy Strobach, Bunny Erickson, Kathy Peterson and Al (Julie) Swartout. Gary is predeceased by his parents; son, Todd Swartout; and daughter, Kimberly Flynn.
Celebration of Life for Gary will be from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday, February 8, his birthday, at the Roscoe VFW, 11385 Second Street, Roscoe, IL 61073.
