Fred A. Eklund

Fred A. Eklund, 73, of Belvidere, IL, passed away Thursday morning, January 30, 2025, at his home with his wife, Monica, by his side.  Fred was born December 29, 1951 in Belvidere, IL, the son of Chester and Frances (Nelson) Eklund.  Fred attended schools in Belvidere.  He served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War.  He married Monica Plummer on October 19, 2018 in Belvidere at the United Methodist Church.

Fred sold cars for Frontier Ford and Lou Bachrodt in Rockford, IL and Brian Bemis in Sycamore, IL. He also worked with his brother-in-law, Gill Hodge, in selling cars at Marietta Dodge or one of Gill's other dealerships in the Atlanta area. He loved to talk to his friends at the American Legion about his two favorite professional sports teams, the New York Yankees and the Indianapolis Colts. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Frances Eklund; and his sister, Dorrie Hodge.  He is survived by his wife, Monica Eklund; children, Chad Eklund and Keri Allen; grandchildren, Alyssa, Jonathan, Wyatt, Jesse, Georgia and Isaac; step-children, Leta (Ronn) Gordon and their child, John, and Sherese Plummer (Drew) ; and sisters, Sandy (Wes) Hulstedt and Marsha (Jeff) Pundt, plus several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11:00am with a visitation starting at 10:00am at Faith Baptist Church, 1637 – 7th Avenue, Belvidere, IL 61008.
