Francine Marie Barrie, 75, of Rockford, IL, passed away from a long-term illness on Friday, December 12, 2025. Born June 25, 1950, in Rockford, IL, to Frances (Salamone) and Mitchell Schiro. Francine attended St. Anthony School and graduated from Bishop Muldoon High School in 1968. She attended Rock Valley College. She married the love of her life, Lee Barrie, on July 4, 1970, and they recently celebrated 55 years of marriage together.
Francine worked for Rockford Products for over 25 years as a computer programmer. In 1999, she went back to Rock Valley College and earned her degree. She worked at Swedish American Hospital as a medical records coder for the next 12 years, then retired to spend more time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loved to cook for holidays and special occasions. Over the years, she enjoyed many hobbies such as sewing, crafting, collecting antiques, and angel figurines. Her favorite hobbies were shopping and cooking. In more recent years, she could often be found shopping with Lee at thrift stores, garage sales, or store clearance sales, finding great bargains. If she wasn’t shopping, she was most likely cooking for family, friends, and neighbors, often cooking enough food for an army and sharing it with those she loved. She loved attending her grandson’s high school bowling matches and tournaments, often making food for the team. Francine had a warm, loving, generous, and giving nature. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Francine is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Lee; daughter, Krista Jardeen; son, Bradley Barrie; granddaughter, Hayley Jardeen; grandson, Zachary Jardeen; sister, Anna (Larry) Bergquist; sisters in law, Lynn (Dave) Peterson and Pat Barrie; lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many good friends including her lifelong friends, Becky Fielder, Terri Labunski, Jackie Petty, and Holy Family Parish nurse Teresa Field. Francine is predeceased in death by her parents, Frances and Mitchell Schiro; brothers in law, Bruce and Vance Barrie; and granddaughter, Angel Jardeen.
Memorial visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2025, in Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory, Mulford Chapel – 4311 N. Mulford Rd, Loves Park, IL.
