Floyd Bauer Obituary

Floyd Bauer, loving husband, father, grandfather and a dear friend to many, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025 in his home in Rockford, IL surrounded by his family at the age of 92. Floyd was born June 10, 1933 in Cherry Valley, the son of Floyd and Ida (Moyer) Bauer. He lived all his life in Rockford.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Scott (Nikki) Bauer, Kevin (Kelly) Bauer; daughter, Robin Van Duyn; stepson, Chris (Kathryn) Williams; stepdaughter, Beth Parker; grandchildren, Tammy Bauer, Ben and Brittany Bauer, Jason Van Duyn, Niki (Donny) Jarvis, Joe Van Duyn, Kory Vaught, Kaleighann and Kaden Williams, Jared and Zachary Parker, Tracy (Jason) Pixler, and Christy Stoltz; and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Billy Bauer; sisters, Evelyn Nelson, Sandra Zidarich, Carol (Dan) Goral, Dee (Jim) Grevan and Ethel Bauer. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Debbie Hagedorn; brothers, Leonard, Kenny, Clyde; and sisters, Helen and Beverly; son-in-law, Jim Van Duyn.

Floyd served in the Army until May of 1951. He worked for the Sheriff's Department. In 1985, Floyd became a registered barber and opened a barber shop with his friend, Carl Paulson. Floyd also opened a toy store on Auburn Street for a number of years. The last 35 years he worked in his own construction business building houses and businesses. He was always ready to jump in and help anyone that needed help with their homes. His biggest accomplishment when it came to construction was the handicap house he built in Winnebago. Floyd was a jack of all trades and always made everyone in the room laugh. He continued to work until he retired at the age of 80. Everyone will remember Floyd by the name “Handy Man” and wearing his ruler suspenders.

Celebration of life will be on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at the Northwest Community Center, 325 N. Johnston Ave., Rockford, IL 61101 from 11:30am to 1:30pm.  We would like to thank Northern Illinois Hospice for their care and the VA for always taking great care of Floyd. In lieu of flowers or donations, please send memorials to the VA in Madison or Rockford.
