Fern L. Peck

Fern L. Peck, 88, of Cherry Valley, IL, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023.  She was born on January 30, 1935 to Edgar and Fannie D. (Wright) Nelson; married Garlan R. Peck on March 13, 1958 in South Sioux City, Nebraska.  Fern graduated from Washington High School in 1954 in Cherokee, Iowa and Northwestern Institute of Radiology and Laboratory.

Fern worked at Cherokee Medical Clinic and SwedishAmerican Hospital as a surgical technician, Apsco Company as an assembler, Barber-Colman Company as a QA Metalurgist, Elco Tool and Screw Company as an assembler and her favorite job was as a receptionist and switchboard operator.  She was active in VFW and Navy Club, for decades holding many different positions in the Ladies Auxiliaries.  She was involved with Golden Agers social organization for many trips and get togethers, the Cherry Valley Library book club, and The Trails of Cherry Valley HOA.  Fern was a collector of friendships and valued her many conversations.

She is survived by her children, Gaylene (Mark) Galindo, Gary (Lora Matthews) Peck and Gwen (Frank) Truesdale; grandchildren, Alexis (Brad) Galindo-Kazuk, Adriene (Lauren Segal) Galindo, Olivia Truesdale, Jacob (Olivia Fagan) Truesdale, Chelsey Eklund; great-grandchildren, Emmet Eklund and Layla Eklund; sisters, Doris Lilja, Jane Nelson, Dorothy Boggs and Pauline Nelson; many nieces, nephews and many friends.  Predeceased by her parents; husband; grandson, Lucas Marco Galindo; sister, Jean (Jerry) Reed; and brothers, John Nelson, Paul Nelson, Lee Nelson, William "Bill" Nelson, George "Swede" Nelson and James Nelson.

A family burial service will be held in Cherokee, Iowa at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Northern Illinois Hospice.
