Fen (Fenimore) C. Hicks

Fen (Fenimore) C. Hicks    1931 – 2024

Fen Hicks, 93, passed away September 9, 2024, at OSF St. Anthony Hospital.  Born August 16, 1931 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Floyd and Izella Hicks.  He grew up in East Lansing, Michigan, attending East Lansing High School and graduating from Michigan State University, majoring in Hotel Administration.  He married his wife and best friend Doris McCully in 1957.

He was a member of Ostende Dance Club, Northern Illinois Corvette Club, Wesley Willows Auxiliary, Rockford Newcomers and his Handicap Golf Foursome. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with many best friends. He shared his August 16 birthday with son Scott and daughter Marcia. He was self-employed for over 40 years as a sales representative for Herff Jones Company, a manufacturer of high school class rings and graduation supplies.

He and Doris (Dorie) traveled extensively. They visited over 60 countries via ocean and river cruises, cross country bus excursions and self-guided automobile tours.  When the children were growing up there were many camping trips towing a pop up camper. 

Survivors besides his wife of 67 years include his son, Scott (Austin, TX); daughter, Marcia (Concrete, WA); and sister, Patricia Marr (Mechanicsburg, PA).  Predeceased by brothers, Carmen Hicks and Dan Hicks; sister, Elizabeth Hill; and parents.  Special thanks to Candy, Kelly and staff of Wesley Willows Hunt Terrace for their kind and companionate care for the past year.

No service is planned at this time.  Memorials may be made to GiGi’s Playhouse Rockford or Wesley Willows Good Samaritan Fund.
