Eugene Kleindl Obituary

Eugene (Gene) Leo Kleindl passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2025. Born in 1922, Gene graduated from East High School in the Class of 1942, where he served as Class President and was an active athlete who excelled in football, basketball, and other sports. Shortly after graduation, Gene proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Medic from 1942 to 1945, caring for others with compassion and courage during World War II. Following his military service, Gene worked for JL Clark for many years before starting his own printing business out of his home.

In 2012, Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne M. Kleindl, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Gene’s passions included bowling, golf, and spending time in his print shop, where he took great joy in recording and documenting the many achievements of his family and friends. His meticulous nature and warm personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his four children, Kent (Deette) Kleindl, Keith (Dianna) Kleindl, Susan (Bob) Yates, and Sherrel Vernettee; grandchildren, Jessica (Scott) Smith; and great-grandchildren, Chad Jr. Vich, Tezrian Smith, and Draven Smith; along with many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were dear to his heart. Gene is also survived by his nieces, Michelle Caumiant and Cheri Caumiant Devereux; and special friends, Bradley Spielman, Carl Nuccio, and John Wernick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; brothers, Don, Cliff, and Leo; and sisters, Mary Lou and Betty.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Vets Roll, the Belvidere Veterans Assistance Commission, and the Nuccio Family for their friendship, support, and care.
