Eileen Marie Johns, 100, of Rockford, IL passed away on October 1, 2020. She was born on February 16, 1920 in Stockton, IL where she began her 35 year career as a teacher in a one-room rural school house. She later taught at Stockton Elementary and in the Rockford School District before retiring in 1983 from Walker Elementary. She touched the lives of hundreds of children who loved her colorful outfits, coal black hair and nurturing manner as she brought lessons to life and made learning fun.
She and Harry Johns, her beloved husband of 63 years, raised three children and a niece and then enjoyed retirement in Leesburg, Florida for over 25 years. In 2013, she moved back to Rockford and resided at Morning Star Village Assisted Living until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry and their son Colin (Patti Steiner). She is survived by her daughters, Dee Ann (Curtis) Cedarleaf and Rae Lynn (Craig) Swenson, both of Rockford; her niece Angie (Bob) Niehoff of Lake Worth, Florida; along with six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Her life will be celebrated in a private family gathering in 2021.
