Douglas Williams Obituary

Douglas A. Williams, 82, of Argyle, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025. Born in Indiana on March 1, 1943, Doug lived a full and vibrant life defined by service, curiosity, and a deep love for family and technology.

Doug began his career working at Inland Steel, Borg Warner, and Pepsi before finding his true calling in public service. In 1977, he joined the Rockford Police Department, where he proudly served for 23 years, retiring as a Detective. His commitment to justice and mentorship continued beyond his retirement, as he spent three years with NEC as an instructor in AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems), training fellow law enforcement officers across the country.

Doug was a lifelong learner with an insatiable passion for technology. In his later years, he immersed himself in photography, often capturing the beauty of wildlife right in his own backyard using his camera and drone. He delighted in sharing these images with family and friends, quickly becoming everyone's favorite photographer. His enthusiasm for emerging tech never waned—he 3D printed gifts for loved ones, stayed active on social media, and even surprised his wife by racking up over 100 friends on Snapchat and playing Monopoly Go just days before his passing.

For over three decades, Doug hosted the cherished annual Family Pumpkin Carving, a tradition he documented tirelessly with his ever-present camera. These memories—frozen in time through his lens—remain a gift to all who knew and loved him.

Doug's zest for life, sharp wit, and unwavering devotion to his family and community will be deeply missed. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he so lovingly preserved.

Doug is survived by his wife, Shelly; son, Charles E. (Lucy) Roland; grandchildren, Conner (Kirsten) Roland, Camoriah "Riah" (Thomas) Eaton, Felix Buchs, Anna (Andy) Kauchak; five & 7/8 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna O'Toole; sister-in-law, Kathy Rose; brother’s-in-law, Dan (Teresa) Cox, Sam (Denise) Cox and Al Cox; numerous nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his son, Dougie; daughter, Linda Roland; parents, Raymond and Margaret Gruszka; nephew, Kenny Benak; brother-in-law, Walter Rose.

A special thank you to the staff at Serenity Home and Hospice.  A very special thank you to his nurse, April, his Doctor Juliette Kalweit, Chaplain Willie and Pastor Lauren.
