Donald Tomasino Obituary

Donald “Don” P. Tomasino, 83, passed away peacefully after a short illness on February 20, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 26, 1942, in Rockford, IL, to Alfonso and Marie (Ippolito) Tomasino. Don married Joyce Jordan on November 30, 1963. Don and Joyce shared 62 wonderful years together. Don had a rewarding career with Gates Corp., working as a tool grinder for over 30 years before retiring in 1997. Don was a man of simple pleasures, enjoying things such as bike rides, baseball games, fishing, and a good laugh. He always looked forward to his trips to Florida to visit his son Steve, his daughter-in-law Gina, and his grandchildren. Don spent much of his time outside, walking with Joyce, his daughter, Andie, and his grandchildren at local parks; working in his yard; and in Wisconsin at the cabin he and Joyce shared. In his later years, Don enjoyed watching golf and NASCAR races, as well as quiet evenings spent listening to country music. During family gatherings, Don loved to share a good meal, exchange stories, and spread his contagious laughter with those closest to him.

Don is survived by those who loved him most: his wife, Joyce; son, Steve (Gina) Tomasino; daughter, Andie (Jim) Battista; grandchildren, Erin (Anthony) Kolakowski, Annabella Battista, Olivia Battista, Izzy Tomasino, and Ana Tomasino; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Aria Kolakowski; brother, Frank Tomasino; niece, Laura (Jim) McCartney; and nephews, Joe Tomasino, Ron (Janet) Torgerson, and Phillip (Andi) Torgerson. He was predeceased by his parents, Alfonso and Marie Tomasino, and sisters, Josephine Torgerson and Virginia Torgerson.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Sanctuary Hospice and Dr. Zubair Vhora at OSF for their exceptional care of Don, as well as to everyone who offered support to Don and his family. The family will be holding a private celebration of life to honor Don together as he wanted.
