Donald W. Hansen

Donald Warren Hansen, 84, of Rockford, IL, went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2024. Born on June 12, 1940, in Rockford to Ernest and Ruth (Dougherty) Hansen. Donald was a lifelong resident of the city and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed.

Donald married the love of his life, Caroline May King, on August 15, 1959, and together they shared 53 years of marriage. He graduated from Rockford West High School and later went on to build a successful career as a truck driver with ABF Freight, from which he retired after many years of hard work.

A passionate car enthusiast, Donald loved driving his hot rod across the country to different car shows. Above all else, his greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he adored.

Donald is survived by his children, Cathy (David) Ward, Donald Alan Hansen, and David Hansen; grandchildren, Tracy (Cale) Beecher, Libby (Trace Noack) Ward, Michael, Joshua, and Eric Hansen; and his great-grandchild, August Beecher. He is also survived by his siblings, Judith (John) Harland and Richard (Vida) Hansen; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Caroline M. Hansen; and his parents, Ernest and Ruth Hansen.

Donald will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially his family and friends, whose lives he touched with his love and generosity.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Loves Park Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111, at 11:30 AM, with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society in Donald's honor.
