Dennis Eksten Obituary
Dennis G. Eksten, 85, of Loves Park, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Alpine Fireside. He was born on April 4, 1935 in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Alice V. (Engstrom) and Edward E. Eksten. He lived most of his life in Loves Park. He graduated valedictorian of the Harlem High School class of 1953. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with High Honors and the Bronze Tablet from the University of Illinois Urbana in 1957.
He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Illinois and a Senior Life Member in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He was employed by Motorola, Barber-Colman, Sundstrand, and Ipsen Industries as an Engineering Manager. He enjoyed his hobby of Amateur Radio most of his life, having held an Extra Class License and with call signs of initially W9DDL and later W9SS. He also held a First Class Radiotelephone FCC license. He was a LIFE member in both the American Radio League and the American Motorcyclist Association. Photography and computers were also major hobbies of his. He was a member in many Swedish organizations, including Vasa Order of America and Swedish Historical Society. He was an elected trustee in the North Suburban Public Library District for eight years, the last four years of which he was Board President.
Pre-deceased by his parents. Survived by long-time special friend, Gunnel Stewart; sister, Shirley (John) Fisher; nieces, Deneen (Doug) Andrews, Holly Fisher and numerous cousins. Also, Gunnel's children, Debra (David) Wilberg, Victor (Cathy Curtis) Stewart, Beloit; Gunnel's grandchildren, Tennille (Jason) Cain, Schaumburg, Erik (Georgette Lane) Wilberg; Gunnel's great-grandchildren, Chloe Cain, Jason Cain, Schaumburg.
Funeral service will be at 2:00pm with a visitation from 1:00pm until the service on Thursday, February 11, 2021 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park. Private burial. Masks and social distancing observed.
