Dean Stanton Loy, 79, of Loves Park, a man whose life was dedicated to his faith and music, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025. Born on December 16, 1945, in Rockford, IL, to Herbert and Alma Loy (Seidel). His formative years were spent in the Rockford area, where he went to West High School for 3 years. He then moved to Germany and graduated high school from General H. H. Arnold High School in 1963. He furthered his education by earning a Master of Science in Music Education from the University of Illinois.
Dean was an avid trumpet player and enjoyed sharing his talent with others. He played in the orchestra at First Free Church in Rockford and in other bands and orchestras throughout the years. He also worked at Guzzardo Music, teaching students how to play various instruments. In addition to teaching music, he spent many years of his career working at the Rockford Register Star. He loved God, his family, singing, classical music, reading, running, and spending time in St. Germain, WI.
He is survived by his children, Amanda (Micheal Yates) Loy, Pamela (Brent) Swanson, Lisa (Edward Reynolds) Vega; sister, Joanne (John) Anderson; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and many extended family members, including nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Alma Loy (Seidel); brother, Theodore (Donna) Loy; and a brother who died in infancy.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 9:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am in First Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Rd, Rockford, IL 61107, with Pastor David Creek officiating. A private burial will follow at Willwood Burial Park.
