David Michael Replogle, 57, of Cherry Valley, IL peacefully gained his wings in the afternoon of Monday, June 24, 2024, with his fiancé, Kay, by his side. David was born April 8, 1967, in Rockford, Illinois, to David C. Replogle and Bonnie Swanson. David enjoyed growing up in Rockford and reminisced often about growing up on Pearl Street and always liked to drive by his old house. He talked often about how the neighborhood kids would go house to house devouring all the diverse kinds of foods. Big wheel races down the sidewalk was another childhood favorite. When he wasn't playing in the neighborhood, he could be found hanging out around the body shop with his dad. David spent time with his mom and sister, Michele, on Lake Waubesa. He would tell about how he and Michele collected worms to sell to the fishermen. David attended Northwestern Military Academy for two years before attending Guilford High School (Class of 1985).
On September 19, 2010, David proposed to the love of his life, Kay Smith and they enjoyed a long, happy engagement. Dave was planning a surprise trip to Las Vegas with friends and family this July to finally get married to Kay. David had a very impressive work history, including working for the family businesses, City Hembrough Body Shop and ABC Crash 1 as an estimator. David also ran Riverside Crash 1 for 5 years. When the family business was sold, David pursued a new venture by purchasing Superior Aircraft and Superior Auto Body where he oversaw the painting of airplanes as well as repairing vehicles. Eventually, David moved on from the body shop industry to Midwest Container Sales and Rental. He enjoyed assisting his dad with selling and renting shipping containers.
Through his son's childhood, David took Trent on various trips and loved spending time with him. Whenever Trent was mentioned, you could see the love and pride glimmer in Dave's eyes. During recent years, they were able to spend more time together and had become closer. He was also his kids’ biggest supporter. Along with Kay, they were always at sporting events, school extra curricular activities, and even volunteered on the high school booster club. David also loved to travel whenever he had the chance. He would always share the stories of the places he traveled to. He looked forward to planning future trips that would take him on sightseeing adventures. He was famous for finding his way around anywhere. Friends referred to him as a human GPS. Motorcycle rides were another one of David's passions. He and Kay, along with his biking friends, would go all over the countryside on their motorcycles to enjoy the freedom of riding and the scenic routes. David loved to lead and somehow always found the roads that went from pavement to gravel. Throughout his life, David enjoyed dinners with family and friends, playing cards, games, and helping his “in-laws” at the apple orchard.
David is survived by his fiancée, Kay Smith; his children, Trent Replogle, Casey (Emily) Woodman, Cody Woodman, and Cassidy Woodman; grandchildren, Peyton Woodman, Kaylee, Emmett and Greggory Smith; great-grandchildren, Alana Thomas and Isabella Berry; parents David (Pat) Replogle, Bonnie Swanson; sisters, Terri (Kent) Kobler and Michele (Trinity) Critchfield; several nieces and nephews; best friends, Kevin (Sandi) Thies.
