David Arthur Klitzsch, Sr., 81, of Rockford, IL, passed away on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his family. A God-fearing man, he lived his life grounded in faith, trusting in the Lord through both joyful and difficult seasons.
He was born August 3, 1944 in Rockford, IL, the son of Herman and Rachel Klitzsch. Throughout his life, David was known for his strong character, steady presence, and unwavering belief in God’s plan. His faith was not only something he spoke about, but something he lived daily—in his kindness, his patience, and the way he cared for others.
David met the love of his life, Barbara Klitzsch, who he lovingly referred to as "his Barbie Doll”, in 1992. They married on July 20, 2002.
David began working at W.A. Whitney in 1973 in production control and retired in 2004 as a Traffic Manager, earning the nickname Traffic Dude. David enjoyed gardening, golfing, spending time with family, capturing photos of special moments, and he was a grateful servant of the Lord. His greatest joy was found in time spent with those he loved. He was a man of integrity, humor, generosity, and his legacy will live on in the lives he touched. While his absence is felt deeply, his family finds peace in knowing he is now at rest, welcomed home into eternal life.
He is survived by wife, Barbara; sister, Diane Lang; children, Katie Littlejohn (fiancé, Jeff Patrick), Jenny Moore (husband, Robbie Moore), Keith Keaster (wife, Sarah Keaster), Ken Keaster (partner, Zorka Zeba), Tiffany Mlsna (husband, Reid Mlsna), David Klitzsch and Angela Etheson (husband, Kevin); grandchildren, Amanda Thurber, Sara Keaster, Annabel Keaster, Hannah Littlejohn, Andrew Littlejohn, Kimmy Mlsna, Teddy Mlsna, Andelyn Klitzsch, Crystal Klitzsch, Kolton Etcheson, Zach Burden (wife, Ashley), and several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Herman and Rachael Klitzsch; and grandson, Brock.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the OSF Hospice team for their loving care. David especially enjoyed his time with his CNA, Trinity. She provided comfort, loving care and her smile would brighten his day.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 24th, 2026 from 10 to 11am with the memorial service at 11am at Rock Church, 6732 Harrison Ave, Rockford, IL 61108. After the memorial service, David's family would like to invite those who came to pay their respects to stay for a reception at Rock Church.
