David Bleckeberg Obituary

David Allen Bleckeberg, 80, of Machesney Park, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born May 5, 1944, in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Ella and Ernest Bleckeberg. David lived a life filled with love, devotion to faith, family and service.  After graduating from Albert Lea High School, David proudly served in the United States Navy, demonstrating his deep love for his country. Following his military service, he moved to California, where he attended college and earned a degree in finance. David began working for the Stock Exchange, where his extensive knowledge and passion for investing flourished.  David moved to Rockford and worked for Chrysler for 30 years before retiring. In retirement he found joy spending quality time with his family and forming special bonds with each member.

David met the love of his life, Lynn (Anderson) Bleckeberg, on a blind date on December 23, 1972. David told Lynn he loved her for the first time, New Year’s Eve 1972. They were united in marriage on May 19, 1973. Together they had three children, Jenny, Matt and Marcy.

A devoted family man, David cherished his role as husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, instilling his faith in God, essential life lessons and values to his family. Known for his quiet demeanor, he was a wealth of wisdom, and love. His warm hugs and radiant smile were a constant source of comfort to all who knew him and will be missed immensely. David’s faith provided him with peace and he took comfort in knowing we will all be reunited with our loved ones in Heaven.

David is survived by the love of his life, Lynn; his children, Jenny (Marc) Williams, Matthew Bleckeberg and Marcy (Todd) Cutsinger; his grandchildren, Kaitlynn (David) Milvert, Kyle (Haylin) Kling, Courtney Cutsinger, Tara (Johny Shemshedini) Meyers, Lauren (Alex Hall) Cutsinger, Emily Zammuto, Kylie Williams and Evan Williams; great-grandchildren, Mia Milvert and Baby Boy Kling, due in June, who he was eagerly awaiting the arrival of; siblings, Thomas Bleckeberg, Sharon (Gene) Weckwerth, and Robert (Ginger) Bleckeberg; brother-in-law, Mike (Rhonda) Anderson and sisters-in- law, Marilyn Bleckeberg, Christy (Donald) Pete and Debbie Anderson; and numerous nieces, nephews and Woodhaven friends. David was predeceased by his parents; brother, Paul Bleckeberg; son-in-law, David Zammuto; mother-in-law, Elsie Anderson; father-in-law, Ivan Anderson and brother-in-law, Mark Anderson.

While we mourn the loss of David, we celebrate a life well lived with love, laughter, and enduring memories. Though he may be gone from our sight, he will forever remain in our hearts. This isn’t goodbye; it’s a promise that we will all be reunited in heaven together one day.
