Darek L. Thomas, Jr.

Darek Thomas, Jr., 22, of Rockford, IL departed his young life November 16, 2021. He was born on December 20, 1998 in DeKalb, IL to Amy Roland and Darek Thomas, Sr.  Early on, and like many kids, Darek enjoyed baseball, skateboarding and bike riding with his friends and brothers. What made Darek special was his talent at taking apart broken things to see how they worked and fixing them. It started with remotes, to PlayStations, to cars. He used this talent to become an EMT with plans to become a doctor and fixing people. He had a gifted mind and was known for both his self-taught knowledge and willingness to help.

It's incredibly hard to put an entire life in just a couple paragraphs. Doc was many things to many people. Though he was a young, 22 years old when he passed, he will have left this world a better place than when he entered it. Darek was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

He will be missed by his mother, Amy Roland; fathers, Darek Thomas Sr; and Rashon Rose; brothers and best friend, Daunte Thomas, Dalen Thomas, Jacori Rose and his brother from another mother, Zeke Kaiser; closest dear friend and mother of his daughter, Jasmine Bond; uncles, Jason Roland and Adam Roland; aunt, Erin Roland; grandmother, Terri Thomas; as well as many other family and friends. He will forever live on through their memories along with his beautiful young daughter and pride and joy, Alyza Lynn Thomas.

Memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 28, 2021 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory - Mulford Chapel with a visitation from 2:00 pm until time of service.
