Dana L. Carroll

Dana Carroll, 71, of Belvidere, IL, passed peacefully surrounded by family on November 2, 2024. Born in Michigan on June 22, 1953, Dana was beloved and admired by his family, many friends, and colleagues.

Dana is survived by his wife of 42 years, Colleen (Coonley) Carroll; children, Brian (Anne) Carroll and Kate (Kyle) Allen; grandchildren, James and Lydia Carroll and Addison Allen; brothers, Mark and Scott (Shari) Carroll; sisters, Gail Carroll and Debbie (Bob) Allen; brother-in-law, Ken (Suzie) Coonley; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces/nephews. Dana was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Geraldine Carroll; his brother, Charlie (Nimfa) Carroll; and sisters-in-law, Cathy (Dan) Thornton and Carol (Rich) Zies.

Over his 50-year civil engineering career, Dana held positions at Arnold Lundgren & Associates, The City of Belvidere, Heritage Engineering, and Donahue/Rust Engineering Chicago – at which he was civil project manager for the Sears Corporate Center in Hoffman Estates. Dana operated his own firm, Carroll Engineering, for 13 years and culminated his career as the engineering manager of the Rock River Water Reclamation District and as consultant to Ollmann Ernest Martin Architects & Engineers.

Dana proudly contributed to his community, serving on boards such as The Boone County Conservation District Foundation and Rockford Bell Credit Union, and as a long-term active participant with The Belvidere IOU Club, Rockford Ravens Rugby Club, and BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding Center. Dana was happiest outdoors. He loved to camp, fish, trap shoot and, although his score usually didn’t reflect why, he loved to play golf with his buddies. Still, his overwhelming joy was for his family, especially the times shared with his “four kids” and his grandchildren.

A Celebration-of-Life Visitation will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the Boone County Museum of History, 314 S. State St., Belvidere, IL 61008 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
