Crystal Leigh Schermerhorn, 47, of Roscoe, IL, passed away on February 3, 2026. Born in Ft Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska, on June 11th, 1978, to her parents, Les Schermerhorn and Cynthia Johnson Lutes. Crystal graduated from South Beloit High School in 1996 and went on to Rockford Career College for massage therapy. She worked at Chrysler Corp. and was a massage therapist for the last 15 years. Crystal had lived in Alaska, Illinois, Oklahoma, Florida, Nevada, and Wisconsin.
To know Crystal was to know love. She was kind and empathetic. The type to give her shirt off her back for someone in need. She cared about people and the world. She was a fun person to be around, and her smile would literally brighten up a room. Crystal had faith in God, and her love for him grew stronger every day. Her faith helped mold her into the kind, empathetic, caring, and loving soul she was.
Crystal’s favorite place to be was the beach, where she could swim, fish, and go jet skiing. She loved the sand between her toes and the sound of the waves. Crystal also enjoyed music and playing the drums. She liked sports, especially basketball. She really enjoyed her work as a massage therapist. It gave her the ability to help heal people, and Crystal was a natural-born healer. Crystal will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Crystal is survived by her parents, Les Schermerhorn and Cynthia (Gary) Johnson Lutes; grandfather, Harold (Jan) Schermerhorn; sister, Cara Kamholz; step-siblings, Alissa Neubauer and Mike (Natasha) Lutes; niece, Teagan; nephews, Tanner (Breanna) and Tayton; great-nephews, Romann and Romerro; cats, Feef, Bubba, and Eddy. Preceded in death by both her grandmothers, Margaret Walton and Delores Schermerhorn, and her uncle, Mike Johnson.
